Hemlock Grove [5 out of 5]

True to my unfortunate affinity for fictional supernatural shows, watching the entire season 1 of Hemlock Grove back to back was inevitable. It’s up to 3 seasons now. I am wondering how this show got passed my radar. It’s pretty f*ckin’ good. The characters are all delightfully complex and the storyline pretty intense. Although I have to admit, if I were to overly simplify the storyline, it is the standard tale of two people from two walks of supernatural life by chance (not really at all by chance of course) finding each other, hating each other, grow affection for each other and THEN hating each other again. But hey, standard or not, it’s a tried and tested basic storyline and it definitely doesn’t disappoint. Overall, thumbs up. Really good special effects too! One of the best I’ve seen (and I’ve seen a lot). Hemlock Grove, you’ve placed a very hard yardstick for other supernatural shows to contend!
The Secret Circle [4 out of 5]

The Secret Circle [4 out of 5]

They only made 1 season of The Secret Circle. This series came out in 2011. The show just didn’t have a strong enough following for the network to make a second season. I’m in shock of course. Maybe 2011 was leaning towards the ‘Twillight sparkly vampire era’ and nobody really caught on with covens and witches? Impossible though. It was a teen targeted show and teens usually slurp supernatural shows up by default. Magic powers, all members of the coven incredibly hot and even surprisingly strong storyline – how could this show become a miss? Although everyone from the show ended up with their own tv series so it’s not too bad.

Firstly, everyone is hot in The Originals. It makes life seem a little extra unfair. Vampires, witches and werewolves, the supernatural unbeatable trinity. Good storyline (which is uber important) and good cast. This series would inspire you (for that 45 minutes) to get your life in order, start exercising and maybe pick up some form of self defence (just in case you get attacked by a 200 year old vampire who by chance is out for SPECIFICALLY your blood). No kidding, it’s pretty good =)
Sleepy Hollow [2 out of 5]

Slow moving and disappointing. Could have been really good. The cliches were just too strong not to get annoyed. I’m not sure, I guess when you’ve watched a number of really good supernatural tv shows, your standards can be unreasonably high. Good family show I guess. It just couldn’t keep me interested.

Has the same vibe as The Originals, but instead of New Orleans, the show is set in Canada. It does make it a lil’ less sexy BUT overall good cast and great female lead. At first, I must admit I dismissed the series, but I decided to just watch a few episodes. The storyline picked up and I’m genuinely happy that they managed to keep things up till the very end of season 2.
Supernatural [5 out of 5]

Supernatural [5 out of 5]

I was a fan from the get go. It had all the ingredients vital in a supernatural flick and surprisingly, they managed to mix in just the right amount of horror, humour and eye candy! Season 11 now and it’s still going strong. What else can I possibly say? The Winchesters just blow me away =) It’s been on 10 years now and I’m clearly very very loyal and attached to this dynamic supernatural ass kickin’ adik beradik duo. Plus, it’s not psychologically disturbing as lets say, Penny Dreadful, Salem or American Horror Story.

Witches of East End [3 out of 5]

Season 2 was a lil’ draggy. Season 1 was good though. It has a lot of Charmed in it for sure. Although Witches of East End brought it up a notch a lil’. Slightly disappointed that Season 2 couldn’t keep me interested. Really awesome potential too! Charmed, I’ve been a fan from the get go like Supernatural and Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Jenna Dewan-Tatum is a definite bonus. The original Step Up female lead. Let’s see how Season 3 goes. It could pick up? Witches of East End is every witch wannabe’s dream show for sure! I do find the allure in having magical powers to burn things, open doors and prank people, but the selling your soul and marrying the devil bit – not that appealing.
