The Vampire Diaries [4.5 out of 5]

I’m a huge fan of The Originals, it turns out it’s actually a spin off of The Vampire Diaries, a show that’s been around since 2009. 7 seasons in in fact which is awesome for any TV show these days. The golden age of TV they say this past decade has been, but that means new shows starting constantly and then cancelled abruptly when it doesn’t do well. I am still mourning the loss of The Secret Circle. Back to TVD, it is surprisingly good. It started a year after Twillight (2008) came along. Vampirism went full fledge mainstream from thereon forth. Reluctant at first to watch TVD due to its tragic synopsis ‘A teenage girl is torn between two vampire brothers’, as I completed season 7’s finale, very clearly I’ve been converted and consider me now a huge fan. Similar to how I never got around to watching Teen Wolf as well though. I don’t think I was meant to be part of the demographic. But hey, maybe I should give it a shot? It could be another TVD. As work begins to get hectic, I seem to watch more Netflix. A direct correlation to my productivity surprisingly. So yes, give this show a shot. I’ve fallen in love with the Salvatore brothers. Dare I say almost as much as The Winchesters from good ol’ Supernatural. I love the cast of TVD, a good mix of personalities and age groups. Elena, the female lead is pretty kick ass as well. Good storyline. Fantastic soundtrack as well! Just as good as Reign and that says a lot! 4.5 out of 5.

The first 2 seasons were good, then it just got too draggy. You can clearly see that the writers were running out of plots and ideas. BUT it’s a fandom so we forgive and eventually forget the obvious flaws because we are just in love with Sookie Stackhouse and Vampire Bill. On the scale of fandom-ness for true blood, I’m probably a 6/10. For Supernatural and The Originals? Fandom level 8/10. Some of us are just loyal to the core, even when the show starts to lose its charm, we still hold on. Oddly enough, we still do feel a great lost when the show comes to an end.
The Originals [5 out of 5]

The Originals [5 out of 5]

Firstly, everyone is hot in The Originals. It makes life seem a little extra unfair. Vampires, witches and werewolves, the supernatural unbeatable trinity. Good storyline (which is uber important) and good cast. This series would inspire you (for that 45 minutes) to get your life in order, start exercising and maybe pick up some form of self defence (just in case you get attacked by a 200 year old vampire who by chance is out for SPECIFICALLY your blood). No kidding, it’s pretty good =)
Sleepy Hollow [2 out of 5]

Sleepy Hollow [2 out of 5]

Slow moving and disappointing. Could have been really good. The cliches were just too strong not to get annoyed. I’m not sure, I guess when you’ve watched a number of really good supernatural tv shows, your standards can be unreasonably high. Good family show I guess. It just couldn’t keep me interested.

Has the same vibe as The Originals, but instead of New Orleans, the show is set in Canada. It does make it a lil’ less sexy BUT overall good cast and great female lead. At first, I must admit I dismissed the series, but I decided to just watch a few episodes. The storyline picked up and I’m genuinely happy that they managed to keep things up till the very end of season 2.

Unlike The Secret Circle or Witches of East End, Salem portrays witches as how (I feel) they truly are. The modern day witch is packaged a little too perfect. Everyone is strikingly good looking and oozes sex appeal. In Salem, you get a lil less sex appeal, and a lil more, let’s burn that ugly witch or drown her. Marginally less disturbing than Penny Dreadful. Just marginally. The opening credits by itself is seriously freaky and a very clear warning of what’s to come when you decide to embark on the journey to Salem. Bitchcraft indeed.

If you live alone and not partial to horror flicks, this probably isn’t the show for you. The storyline is pure genius though. The cast is amazing and I’m definitely hooked. Word of warning though, extremely disturbing content – both psychologically and visually disturbing. You WILL feel uncomfortable at certain points, even the most jaded or seasoned horror flick enthusiast would find themselves delightfully and adequately frightened. Eva Green can definitely play the character of Vanessa Ives perfectly. I’m not surprised if it was written specifically for her. She’s got dark, dirty, desirable and damned nailed down for sure.
