Slightly mixed feelings about this Netflix series in particular. It’s rather unchartered territory for me. Mostly because of my inability to relate to being a first-generation American or a second-generation immigrant. Some parts of the series deal with really specific humour, which was lost on me unfortunately. ALTHOUGH, some bits are pretty funny! I LOVE Aziz Ansari’s parents in the show. I appreciate the plot and plight of a first-generation Asian American, being single in the big city and getting to know your parents better, but now as an adult. Aziz Ansari is a stand up comedian (he’s aaaiigghht) and had a really fun role in Parks & Recreation. Being a true Pawneean, I definitely had to watch this series.

Remember Golden Girls? Grace & Frankie is pretty much that, but on steroids. It’s the not so classic tale of two golden girls learning to cope with the loss of their husbands. The recent legislation on gay marriage apparently had inspired their closeted husbands to abandon the 40-50 year matrimonial ship and decided it was finally time to wed each other. This is the story of how two women, who generally hated each other in the past, learned that in the end, all hope was not lost when their marriages ended. How life did go on and move on, even at 70. Amazing cast of actors. They truly nailed it! Just the right amount of family chaos, the right amount of giggles and the right amount of hallucinogens =)

I’m a 1985 baby and generally, I’ve grown out of teen/college TV flicks. I’m more ‘The Originals’ and less ‘The Vampire Diaries’. Scream Queens is SURPRISINGLY entertaining! There were countless ways how this show could be a major flop but they pulled it off. I can’t wrap my head around it either, but they somehow managed. Some bits are just insanely ridiculous, but in a very funny, very ‘Clueless meets Scary Movie’ way. Tons of references that most Millennials would find hard to appreciate as well – which really took me by surprise! Shame on me for my teen/college genre prejudice! Shame on me.

The Middle, to me, is kinda like Modern Family, but quirkier =) It’s hard not to love a family that eats take out every night for dinner, shops at the frugal hoosier, loves and hates each other, all with absolutely different personalities but somehow seem to make things work. It’s the typical feel good sitcom about a dysfunctional family just trying to get by.

Leslie Knope is definitely the sort of girlfriend that you’d love to hate (due to her exasperating positivity) but also can’t help but love (for the very same reasons). She attacks everything with extreme forceful enthusiasm and I guess, in some way, you would like a lil’ of that to rub off on you =) The cast is amazing as well! Adam Scott (hunk o’ burnin’ love Ben Wyatt), Amy Poehler (Leslie Knope), Aubrey Plaza (April Ludgate) and even Chris Pratt (Andy Dwyer). Stellar cast and crazy hilarious. Not everyone’s cup of humour, but it definitely is mine =)

AMAZEBALLS! Ellie Kemper plays the lead and does an amazing job. She definitely nailed gutsy naivety and yes, unbreakability (if that’s a word, autospell didn’t autocorrect though). Tituss Burgess plays her dynamic flamboyant counterpart and both of them make this 25-30 min show incredibly entertaining. No such thing as watching an episode at a time, a marathon is definitely called for! Plus, it was created by Tina Fey as well and how can anyone not love this SNL alumni, 30 Rock starring, movie producing and award winning author of Bossy Pants? Definitely good for lifting spirits after a tumultuous visual and mentally staggering journey you inflict upon yourself with heavier dramas like True Detective and Penny Dreadful. Need to balance out the yang with some yin.
